The Topeka (KS) Chapter of The Links, Incorporated proudly welcomed Highland Park High School students Destinee Abbott, J’Lanette Harrison, Dania Del Real Lopez, and Konnor Long as its guests at the 2026 Topeka Center for Peace and Justice Peace Gala.
Selected for their interest in leadership and community service, curiosity about conflict resolution and equity, and potential to positively influence their peers, the students represented the promise of emerging community leaders.
The event, held at the Kay McFarland Japanese Garden at the Topeka Zoo, featured Kansas City, Kansas, Mayor Christal Watson as keynote speaker. Its theme, “Peace by Piece: Building a Healthy Community,” connected the evening’s celebration to the everyday work of building stronger communities.
Allena Ross, Highland Park’s College & Career Advocate, served as the school’s escort for the students. Her work supports students’ exploration of educational and career pathways beyond high school.
Through this opportunity, the chapter supported students’ leadership interests by providing access to an event centered on civic engagement, service, and peace. We celebrate these young people and the positive influence they can bring to their school and community.
